This motif is simultaneously a theme in that the glaring contrast between the appearance and reality in Macbeth is used by Shakespeare to express that one should be careful of this contrast that exists in everyday life. This serves as a warning to the audience to be aware of how things are not actually as they appear to be. In the beginning of the play, he is praised as being a brave and valiant soldier. The positive light that Macbeth is put in causes him to seem as a person of good character.

According to "Webster's New World Dictionary," love is defined as "a strong affection or liking for someone. Malvolio is used as the messenger of love between Olivia and Cesario. They both also tell a story. The differences in the poems are that 'To His Coy Mistress' is arguing why they should get on with life, and Carpe diem whereas 'Sonnet ' is telling us about how he doesn't trust her, yet he loves her.
